Yoga that focuses on muscular movement and contraction is considered Yang Yoga; this yoga generates heat while strengthening the body and elevating the heart rate. In contrast, Yin Yoga targets the body’s connective tissue with a focus on the lower spine, hips and pelvis. Postures are held three to five minutes and props are used only as needed. This is an excellent practice for those wishing to prepare their bodies for meditation and improve their breathing techniques, or as a supplement to more active styles such as Flow.
Restorative Yoga is a healing practice, which uses props for every pose so students can feel safe and supported. The goal for each pose is total — but active — relaxation so you can gain balance in the body and improve the overall health of the spine. These two styles are for students of all abililties.
