Yoga can be a wonderful way for anyone to increase and maintain strength, flexibility and balance, as well as a sense of vitality. These benefits are no different for seniors and yoga has been shown to help slow down the effects of the aging process and support the sense of wellbeing. Some of the greatest and strongest yoga teachers have maintained their practice and their teaching well into their eighties.
The guidelines for which classes to take are the same for seniors:
Those who are new to the practice should consider Beginning, Gentle Flow or Iyengar classes; those seeking a more relaxing experience should join our Restorative and/or Yin classes.
As with any new activity, please consult with your health care provider before starting and let the teacher know ahead of time if you have any injuries or limitations so they may suggest modifications or alternatives as needed.
